Value Methodology Associate (VMA) Certification
Share |

The Value Methodology Associate (VMA) certification recognizes those individuals who decided to become professional value engineers, but who have not yet acquired all the experience or technical skills expected of a Certified Value Specialist (CVS).

Becoming Certified

As of January 1, 2018, the requirements for VMA certification have changed:

  • The old Module I workshop no longer counts toward VMA certification. The new Value Methodology Fundamentals 1 (VMF 1) course is required to take the VMA exam.
  • The old VMA exam is no longer being administered. In April 2018, the new VMA exam will be available and taken by an approved candidate via SAVE’s online proctor service.

Please note that there are other requirements to apply for VMA certification in addition to the VMF 1 course. All of the necessary requirements will be outlined in the new SAVE Certification Manual, which will be available in April 2018.

The new application for VMA certification will be available soon.

Fee Schedule

More information regarding the new VMA application fees will be available soon.

Transfer Your AVS to VMA Certification

Individuals with a current or recently expired AVS certification can transfer to the VMA certification by completing the online VMA application and paying the appropriate application fee ($50 USD for SAVE members or $500 USD for non-members). You do not need to retake the exam. Once your VMA application and payment are processed, your SAVE profile will be updated.

Those AVS who have not transferred to the VMA certification by 2020 will be required to complete a new application for the VMA certification. Those who do not wish to transfer to a VMA certification should prepare to apply for CVS certification.
